AI Course Fees Near Me: What You Pay

The price of an AI course tells you about its marketing budget. It rarely tells you about its assessment.

The short answer

Paid AI courses in the UK span free to several thousand pounds. A funded apprenticeship route costs the learner nothing at any point.

Check if it is funded for you

Based on the AI and Automation Practitioner standard (ST1512), a Level 4 apprenticeship for people already in work. Skills England sets that standard and its funding band. Apprenticeship funding applies in England only, so a learner in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland needs their own nation's scheme.

Why the same material sells at different prices

Course content on AI tools is close to commoditised. What differs is who assesses your work and whether anyone does.

Providers price on positioning. You are often paying for the sales process rather than the teaching.

The three cost models you will meet

Free introductory material, paid short courses, and government-funded qualifications. Each has a different obligation attached.

Free costs you time. Paid costs you money. Funded costs you a real commitment to finish.

What the funded route costs

The programme is worth around £18,000 per person. Levy-paying employers pay nothing extra while their levy funds last, and a levy transfer can cover the balance if those funds run short. A non-levy employer pays nothing for an apprentice aged 16 to 24. From 1 October 2026 that employer may also claim up to £2,000 for hiring one. Levy payers do not get it. It is conditional on the funding rules, so it is not money you can count on in advance. For anyone older the government funds 95 per cent, and pledged levy funds from a larger employer can cover the rest. The gov.uk funding rules set out the detail. The learner never pays.

That figure surprises people, which is why the funding question is worth settling before you compare anything else.

More detail on what is involved sits on the ai course page.

The cost nobody quotes you

It runs about six hours a week for roughly 14 months, entirely remote, with no academic entry requirements. Six hours a week is the genuine price of the funded route.

Anyone who tells you a serious qualification takes no time is selling you a certificate, not a capability.

Why we do not publish other providers' fees

Course prices change without notice and vary by cohort. A figure quoted here would be wrong within weeks.

Ask each provider directly what is included, what is assessed and what the total commitment is.

Comparing two options on the same basis

Put total hours, cost to you, assessment method and recognition side by side. Ignore everything else on the page.

Most shortlists collapse to one sensible option once you do that honestly.

The apprenticeship funding rules set the minimum duration around a 30 hour week. Working fewer hours must not be a barrier, so the provider agrees a longer duration instead. Part-time work delays your end date rather than closing the route.

Key takeaways

  • Price signals marketing position more than teaching quality
  • Free, paid and funded routes carry very different obligations
  • The funded route costs the learner nothing at any stage
  • Six hours a week for 14 months is the real commitment
  • Compare hours, assessment and recognition, not headline price

Frequently asked questions

How much do AI courses cost in the UK?

Advertised fees run from free to several thousand pounds. We do not publish other providers' prices because they change without notice.

Is there a genuinely free route?

Government-funded apprenticeships cost the learner nothing. The employer contribution is nil for an apprentice aged 16 to 24. Otherwise it is nil for a levy payer with funds available, and the government funds 95 per cent for everyone else, with a levy-transfer pledge able to cover the rest.

What is the catch with funded training?

The commitment. It runs about six hours a week for roughly 14 months, and you need to be employed.

Do cheaper courses teach less?

Not necessarily. What usually differs is whether your work is assessed by somebody qualified to judge it.

Are there hidden costs on the funded route?

The learner pays nothing. Eligibility and funding rules are set by the funding body, apply in England only, and can change, so check the current position.
