A degree-level qualification in AI
The Level 4 AI apprenticeship is a nationally recognised, degree-level qualification, a programme worth around £18,000, designed for people already in work. Rather than abstract theory, you learn by applying AI to your own role and real projects, so the skills land immediately. It runs for about 14 months, is delivered 100% online, and takes roughly six hours a week. There are no academic entry requirements.
Who it is for
It is open to almost anyone employed, in nearly any role or sector, marketing, admin, operations, finance, customer service and more. If you already use a computer at work, you can do this. You do not need to be technical.

Is it really free?
The cost is potentially covered in full by government apprenticeship funding. If your employer pays the apprenticeship levy, it is usually fully funded, with nothing to pay, and a levy transfer from another employer covers the balance if their own funds run short. If they do not pay the levy, the government funds 95 per cent, and the whole cost where the apprentice is aged 16 to 24, with a levy-transfer pledge able to cover the rest. What ‘degree level’ actually means
Level 4 sits at the first stage of higher education, above A-levels and broadly equivalent to the first year of a degree. It is a recognised national standard (the Artificial Intelligence and Automation Practitioner), not an informal course or a certificate of attendance.
The learning is applied from day one: your team member works on real projects in your business, builds practical skills with AI and automation tools, and finishes with an independent final assessment carried out by an outside body. That independence is what gives the qualification its weight with employers.

Who is the Level 4 AI apprenticeship for?
You need to be employed, aged 16 or over, and have a line manager who can sign off your timesheets. Your employer needs to be happy for you to attend. You also commit to a monthly remote masterclass and to the full 14 month programme.
What does the AI apprenticeship cost?
For levy-paying employers the training is fully funded from the levy they already pay, and a levy transfer can cover the balance if those funds run short. Government funding covers all of the cost for apprentices aged 16 to 24. For those aged 25 and over it covers 95 per cent, and a levy transfer from a larger employer can cover the rest. A larger employer can pledge unused levy funds to cover that share, if you apply and are accepted. The learner never pays anything.
